Vaccination

Vaccination is an important part of your pet's routine healthcare by providing immunity to serious/life threatening disease. Whenever your pet comes in for a vaccination, he/she will also receive a thorough health check which is invaluable for picking up early signs of disease that may easily be missed at home. We routinely vaccinate cats, dogs and rabbits. More details of these are described below.

Dogs
  • Dogs are vaccinated for Distemper, Hepatitis, Parvovirus, Parainfluenza and Leptospirosis.
  • Puppies require a primary vaccination course of two injections, 2 weeks apart.
  • Primary vaccination can be started from 8 weeks of age.
  • Adult dogs need an annual booster vaccination after their primary course.
  • Kennel Cough vaccination is also available and is recommended if your dog is likely to mix with lots of other dogs, such as in kennels, dog shows or training classes.
Cats
  • Cats are vaccinated for feline Flu and Enteritis.
  • We also encourage vaccination against Feline Leukaemia Virus.
  • Kittens require a primary vaccination course of two injections, 3 weeks apart (from 9 weeks of age).
  • Adult cats need an annual booster vaccination after their primary course.
Rabbits
  • Rabbits are vaccinated for Myxomatosis and Viral Haemorrhagic Disease (VHD).
  • Myxomatosis can be given from 6 weeks of age and is repeated every 6 months.
  • VHD can be given from 10 weeks of age (but not at the same time as myxomatosis vaccine) and is repeated annually.
Ferrets
  • Ferrets can be vaccinated against Distemper. Please discuss this with one of our vets.
